Southern Graphics 2011 - St. Louis

The Southern Graphics Council International conference, "Equilibrium", took place in St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A. in March 2011.  The host institution was Washington University in St. Louis, in partnership with many galleries, museums, print shops, and cultural institutions in the the city.  We stayed at the Moonlight Hotel, in the Delmar Loop area; voted in 2010 as "one of ten great streets in America".  The conference and related events were absolutely incredible.  We experienced technical demonstrations, amazing artist talks and large lectures, a host of art exhibitions related to all-things-Print, but most importantly, the feeling of community.  I always tell my students that there is "a whole world out there, beyond our basement studio in Regina", and by organizing this trip, I proved it to them (and to myself).  I am so convinced of the magic of this trip that I have begun preparations to accompany another group of students to the 2012 conference, "Navigating Currents", in New Orleans.
